|James P. Bird
Jim has been working with the firm since he started articling in June 2012. Jim completed his articles and was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta on July 26, 2013. He continues to provide legal services in many areas of the firm's practice, particularly in the areas of Family Law and Civil Litigation.
Jim obtained his Juris Doctor (2012) from the University of Victoria. Prior to attending law school Jim studied at Brigham Young University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts (2008) degree in Political Science. As a law student Jim completed a full-time intensive clinical program at the University of Victoria’s Law Centre, providing free legal services to Victoria’s lower income residents. During this time Jim obtained his temporary articles in B.C. and represented clients in criminal, family, and human rights proceedings providing him with practical legal and courtroom experience prior to beginning his articles with the firm.
Jim volunteered in the Philippines for two years from 2002 – 2004 and speaks the Tagalog language fluently. The skills gained were later put to good use when Jim interned at the Embassy of the Philippines in Washington, D.C. at the end of his undergraduate studies. While there Jim served in helping organize cultural events as well as attending political and economic forums on behalf of the Embassy.
In addition to the practice of law, Jim enjoys spending time with his wife and young son enjoying the outdoors. Jim is also involved with Scouts Canada and maintains an active involvement with his church community.
